The story behind dining sensation FantAsia

Bringing a new taste to the table with a modern take on Asian cuisine, we spoke to the woman behind the magic, owner of FantAsia, Judy Wong, on how she got here.
How did FantAsia start?
Our family has always been in the restaurant business. My husband is a wonderful chef and we both have over 40 years of experience. However, when we moved to Brisbane in 2000, we'd had a 10-year break until our family and friends said, "You have to get back into food". In 2010, we opened our first store in MacArthur Central. Since then, we've celebrated much success and have opened another 9 stores in and around Brisbane.
Remarkably, 'FantAsia's menu offers 13 different meals from seven Asian countries'. Can you explain the purpose behind this?
We wanted to provide each customer with a rich variety, entailing a modern spin on dishes from all over Asia. Each meal on the menu is an iconic dish from Asia. Some famous dishes include the Singapore Chicken and Prawn Laksa, Saigon Lemongrass Chicken, and Hong Kong Dumpling Noodle Soup.
What are the main secrets behind your delicious menu?
We pride ourselves on using only the freshest and best quality produce to provide fast, filling and guilt-free meals without compromising on quality, taste or price.
How do you make your meals? Any cooking tips you’d like to share?
From the sourcing of ingredients through to the careful preparation and serving, FantAsia’s food is as natural as restaurant food can be, and is designed with taste and health in mind. FantAsia breaks away from stereotypical fast food trends, and provides a positive example of how authentic Asian food should be presented.
What do you love most about Asian food?
Asian food is incredibly abundant in variety. It draws flavours, aromas and vibrant colours from local ingredients, and when combined altogether, the possibilities are endless. There are so many Asian cuisines, where each region has their own distinct flavours. Also beneficial, Asian food is loaded with fresh flavours and vegetables that don't weigh you down.
What does good customer service mean to you?
To me, customer service is about truly putting the customer first, and then doing the right thing by them. It's about treating a customer as they would expect to be treated, and as you yourself would want to be treated.
What’s your store philosophy?
Food is our life's passion. And so, our philosophy is based on using traditional cooking methods together with healthy seasonal ingredients. It is here, that we are proud to offer our customers the very best in Asian fast food at extremely competitive prices.
In your own words, what sets your store apart?
What sets us apart is not any single thing but instead, is a complete experience. We provide quality products with a friendly service, and value for money.
When it comes to passionately cooking each day, what are the words you like to live by?
It’s our new and returning customers that motivate me - each new face, and every customer who simply says “Thanks, we really enjoyed your food!”.
At the moment, which meal is your favourite?
The Steamed Barramundi with Ginger and Shallot Pesto on Super Rice. This is my all-time favourite, because the fresh ginger and shallot on top of a perfectly steamed fillet of fish is just an amazing combination. The low GI Super Rice, mix of grains and seeds put my health-conscious mind at ease, and not only offers a healthier option over white rice - but it's absolutely delicious as well!
Anything new we can look forward to?
Yes, we're excited to announce that we have just introduced 2 new dishes to the menu: 'Pad Thai', which captures everything we love about Thai food, and the second, 'Drunken Soy Chicken', which comes from China, and embodies the delicate flavour of Chinese rice wine.
