5 Egg-Ceptional Flicks This Easter
16 Apr 2017
The Easter long weekend is here! Even with Netflix, figuring out what to watch can be a tough gig. Here, 5 egg-ceptional movies (that aren't Ben Hur) to get you started.
1. DOGMA (1999)
En-route with movies like Clerks (1994) and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001), comes this hilariously-absurd cult classic from Kevin Smith. Two fallen angels (a witty Ben Affleck and Matt Damon) have found a way to get back into heaven, posing a grave threat to all of humanity. Who can stop them? An abortion clinic worker, the two (most unlikely) prophets Jay and Silent Bob and the 13th Apostle (a non-angelic Chris Rock). Needless to say, this is your R-rated gateway to Netflix and crack up.
Memorable Quote: "You people. If there isn't a movie about it, it's not worth knowing, is it?"
2. MOANA (2016)
Disney have done it again. In a desperate bid to save her island, Moana (a breakthrough performance for Auli'i Cravalho), the only daughter of a Chieftain, must convince Demigod Maui (Dwayne Johnson) to give back the heart of goddess Te Fiti to her people. To do so, Moana embarks on a brave journey through the Pacific ocean. Set in Ancient Polynesia and based on old myths, Disney's Moana is certainly another heart-warming and riveting animation "shore to make you smile" at any age.
Memorable Quote: "Sometimes who we wish we were, what we wish we could do, is just not meant to be."
3. HOW TO BE SINGLE (2016)
Regardless of your relationship status, Christian Ditter's rom-com How To Be Single is a feel-good chick flick anyone can enjoy. Finding love in New York City can be tough, but for Alice (Dakota Johnson) - being single is harder. After recently ending things with her long-term boyfriend, Alice sets out on her own into the big apple. With the help of her new friend Robin (£https://twitter.com/RebelWilson?lang=en) and sister Meg (Leslie Mann), she discovers how to be single - but first, she'll need a few drinks.
Memorable Quote: "Sometimes, it’s not statistics. It’s just chemistry. And sometimes, just because it is over, doesn’t mean the love ends."
4. EXODUS: GODS AND KINGS (2014)
You may remember the story, but you won't remember seeing a remake like this one. Ridley Scott, the same mastermind who brought you unrivalled titles like Blade Runner and Alien, tells the tale of Moses' (Christian Bale) almighty fight against Ramses (Joel Edgerton), an exalted Egyptian Pharaoh. Exodus: Gods and Kings proves a visual masterpiece, which is best to appreciate for just that. It's a modern biopic perfect to watch this Easter but do note, it's a long movie!
Memorable Quote: "You sleep well because you know that you're loved. I've never slept that well."
5. ME BEFORE YOU (2016)
For small town girl Lou Clark (an ever-charming, ever-quirky Emilia Clarke), life's about the simple things. But when Lou is assigned a new job to take care of Will Traynor (Sam Claflin), who's now paralysed due to a recent motorcycle accident, she fast learns that it'll take a lot more convincing to make Will happy again. Based on the New York Times best-selling novel by Jojo Moyes, Me Before You is a pure testament to the power of love in awakening the life of someone who feels as though they've already lost it. A beautiful must-see for any occasion.
Memorable Quote: "You are pretty much the only thing that makes me wanna get up in the morning."
